The very premise of Hyperdot brings open the realm of possibilities in accessibility, you play as a small circle enclosed in an area where simple shapes surround you. The game? Dodge everything.
The game’s solo developer, Charles McGregor, built it with two pillars in mind: minimalism and flexibility. This flexibility has allowed the game to be an incredibly accessible and open title.
CanIPlayThat has even ranked the game as being 10/10 in accessibility, writing: “HyperDot is perfect. Not only is it one of the most entertaining arcade games I've played in years, its hidden therapeutic qualities for physically disabled players cannot be emphasized enough.”

SUBMERGED: HIDDEN DEPTHS (G)
Developor Uppercut Games, describes Hidden Depths as “a relaxing, third-person exploration game set in a hauntingly beautiful world of water and ruins.” You play as two siblings navigating the water and exploring city ruins in this “relaxploration” title.
We love this because gameplay is not timed, or consequential, the lack of pressure allows it to be open to a wide variety of players.

UNPACKING (G)
This is an implicit narrative game that features a single character unpacking their rooms for different living spaces based on stages of their life.
Developed by Witch Beam, the game has a puzzle by choice feature. In puzzle mode, as you unpack objects, there are specific places objects must go in order to get a good star rating. In the non-puzzle option, the game acts as an entirely meditative experience where players can simply enjoy the joys of organising a space without the physical labour.

CELESTE (PG)
This indie platformer (by Extremely OK Games) does well to offer optional difficulty options to avoid cognitive loading. "Assist Mode" offers adjustments to the game's speed, the amount of stamina you have, and even Invincibility if you want to focus on the narrative of the game!
It remains however, that the game lacks a colourblind option and content warnings. So while we need to praise it's Assist Mode, there are some visual and content issues that could do with a level up!

CHICORY (PG)
Chicory’s story is inherently to do with color, as you play as a dog that holds a magical paint brush. Despite the narrative being reliant on the premise of color, the game ensures that anyone can play in part through its clear contrast.
Lobanov, the game’s developer, explained to Game Rant "The choice of colors is purely aesthetic, it’s just like what color you want to draw with." Beyond color options, there are a variety of other options the game includes to ensure many players can have fun, including ways to mitigate misophonia!

EASTERN MARKET MURDER (AGES 12 AND UP)
Often times, AR experiences are only available to those who are mobile. Eastern Market Murder stands out in the crowd with options to play at home or right in the centre of Melbourne, Australia.
Developed by True Crime Games, the experience has been praised as an intense and fantastic murder mystery. Further commendations have been given for its historical accuracy, even using a real event as its basis!

MOVING OUT (PG)
This fun title (developed by SMG Studio) features players helping families move out of their houses as quickly as possible!
Over time the game has released updates to improve accessibility. These updates has added features, such as multiple options in Assist Mode. The most notable update with these improvements was titled "Moving In". Some of the options for Assist Mode include skipping levels on fail, and even adding extra time to the levels timer!

As the developer writes, “After the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man, we received an outpouring of positive feedback from the disabled community and this further strengthened our commitment to add more accessibility features to the upcoming Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, the first Ratchet & Clank game with an accessibility feature list.”
As a game that offers nostalgia for older players and paves the way for younger ones, we just had to feature the amount of work that has gone into the title.

Apex Legends offers some fantastic accessibility options, particularly as a multiplayer title. The captioning of the game indicates who is speaking and allows for font size adjustment - and every bit of dialogue is captioned. It also includes colorblind options, and is known for having a ping system to alert team mates rather than having to jump on a microphone.

Though this game itself is fast-paced, it offers "God Mode" which grants a damage resistance buff that increases 2% after each death (the game is a rogue-like, so you need to anticipate dying a lot!). The buff is capped at 80%.
This opens up opportunity for a wider variety of players due to the barrier of difficulty being lifted. In addition Supergiant Games have included a number of awesome accessibility features!

In Immortals Fenyx Rising, play as Fenyx, a new winged demigod, on a quest to save the Greek gods and their home from a dark curse. MARVEL'S GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY (Mature/Teen)
This 2021 title is becoming more and more renowned for the amount of options it has for a customized experience. The difficulty options are not limited to "easy, normal, hard," but have further options including the amount of damage you take, the amount of damage you deal, and how quick your shields regenerate!
The closed captions of the game actually functions the way closed captions should by indicating ambient noise, and contextualizing scenes by labelled character reactions. There are a lot more that the game offers, so we strongly recommend the title!

MARVEL'S SPIDER-MAN: MILES MORALES (M)
When researching the accessibility of this game you will find over 30 dotpoints of all the features this game includes for an all round fantastic experience. We often talk about physical barriers when it comes to accessibility, but another super important part is cognitive overloading. Spider-man: Miles Morales includes the ability to turn on Explicit Puzzle Hints, which visibly hints at how players can solve a puzzle when stuck.
Additionally, there is a wide range of options from the way the camera functions, controller remapping, narration for subtitled ASL lines, and contrast colours for visual impairment.

The very structure of Sims 4 is a no-pressure customized experience for everyone. The game can be entirely played with just a mouse, and has scaleable UI for visual aid. In terms of audio cues, Sims 4 has a really fun "Mood Sting" that plays to highlight visual cues regarding your sims mood!
The game itself doesn't need audio to play it well! There are points of improvement regarding colour options and reading ability, but for the most part there are some great things to celebrate about the game.
